Course Description:
This class will be for intermediate-advanced fiddlers or classically trained violinists who want to learn about old-time fiddling techniques and who have a curiosity for cross-tuning (AEAE, ADAE, GDGD, etc.). We will focus on and listen to recordings, learn tunes such as “Great Big Taters in the Sandy Land,” “Grub Springs,” “Chinquopin Hunting,” and “Christmas Eve.” We’ll practice double stops and bowing techniques, and most importantly, learn the basics of cross-tuning. There is a lot of fun to be had... All ages are encouraged to take the class, but some experience playing the fiddle is necessary.
