Class Description

Experience the joy of guitar's role as the rhythmic foundation in Old Time! Over 6 weeks, we'll cover the basic techniques for supporting melody instruments in the Old Time tradition by listening and playing together in a safe space where mistakes are part of the process. This class is ideal for adult learners who are familiar with open chords like D, G and A and can move between them. If this will be your first time picking up the guitar, how exciting! Erik Pendleton is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in the rhythm of American roots music. With experience performing and recording in diverse genres, he has honed a deep appreciation for the Old Time tradition. He currently performs with his wife, Macey Mayfield, in the fiddle and guitar/banjo duo Frosty Frog. Erik is particularly passionate about the role of the guitar: it is the backbone that allows the fiddle and other melody instruments to dance. As an instructor, Erik is known for his patient, thoughtful approach and creating an environment where players at all experience levels can feel comfortable exploring their unique musical voice.
