Class Description
Bust it open! In this 6-week class we’ll be focusing on the “Open” banjo tuning, which is one of the most versatile tunings in the Old-time repertoire. We’ll explore the terrain of this tuning and its chord formations through a couple straight-forward tunes to start then move on to some more funky/crooked numbers at a pace that fits the group. I’ll have a bunch of options in mind and will be open to suggestion as always. You should be an intermediate or beyond player, familiar with the fundamental clawhammer techniques and ready to explore how this tuning works to complement a fiddle tune or frame a song. I teach “on the fly,” in the old-time way, but also provide tablature for reference and encourage folks to record the tunes in class. We’ll do a lot of playing together as well. Hot dog, buddy let’s go!
