Class Description

Get your tunes ready for the dance hall! For intermediate and advanced traditional, folk, and roots musicians ages 11 and up interested in creating tune sets, harmonies, and arrangements, and learning about each other’s instruments and musical backgrounds. All instruments welcome (including brass!) with a focus on New England contra, Celtic, and Old Time tunes. We’ll have at least one opportunity to perform locally. Fiddler and dancer Joanne Garton mixes her pervasive passion for Scottish culture with the drive and rhythms of the New England dance floor. A resident of Montpelier, Vermont for the last 18 years, Joanne plays regularly for contra, English, and Scottish dances around the US and Canada and performs on stage with her duo The Turning Stile with Aaron Marcus. You’ll also find Joanne teaching fiddle and step dance at summer camps and festival weekends, and now teaching the Fiddle and Strings programs at Orchard Valley Waldorf School.
